Are AI Blog Posts Hurting Your SEO? Here’s What You Need to Know in 2025
Everyone’s using AI to write blogs. That’s exactly why most of them are yawn-inducing, not getting the traffic you’re used to so hurting your rankings, and not helping you to stand out from the crowd - the way you did before.
If your blog sounds like it came from a robot with a caffeine addiction and no life experience, people will click out faster than you can say “scroll.”
Google’s not impressed either. It wants value, not vapid.

The question I get asked multiple times every week is; 🚫 Will AI-Written Blog Posts Wreck My SEO?
Here’s the real issue, and what to do instead … and the TL;DR is YES and NO!!! 😝
👉You’ve got AI tools at your fingertips. You can open ChatGPT (or whatever your favourite choice of AI platform is), type in a topic, and in seconds, you’ve got a full blog post. But here’s a far better question:
If someone can type the same thing into AI and get back what you just pasted onto your blog, why would they ever visit your site?
Why would Google bother showing it to them in search results?
This is where so many businesses go wrong. They think publishing more content faster will boost visibility, but forget that value, originality, and “humanness” are what Google rewards
What Google Actually Says About AI Content in 2025
Google does not penalise content just for being written with AI.
What Google cares about is:
- Originality
- Expertise
- Relevance
- Real value for the reader

In fact, in their latest update, Google confirmed that they use systems like SpamBrain to identify low-quality, unoriginal, or auto-generated content that adds no value. If your blog looks like filler, it won’t rank. If it sounds robotic, lacks context, or is copied content already published elsewhere, it might as well not exist.
The Problem Isn’t AI.
The problem is lazy use of it.
AI isn’t your enemy.
But if you copy, paste, and publish without a second thought, you’re not blogging, you’re bloating. (That line, you’re not blogging, you’re bloating, is 100% AI and I’m here for it - such a great line!!!)
Have you read my blog about AI red flags (CLICK HERE TO READ) because that’s a doozy. Well worth bookmarking so you can come to it as I regularly update with the latest AI “fluff” and em-dash overuse tell-tale signs!!!!
Here’s what happens with low-effort AI content:
- It sounds the same as everything else online
- It’s packed with generic phrases, clichés, and words like “fluff”, “unleash”, “discover” and “honestly”
- It doesn’t reflect your voice, experience, or brand personality
- It doesn’t actually solve the reader’s real problem
- And most importantly, it gives Google nothing new to index

Ask Yourself This Before Hitting Publish
- Is this blog written in my voice, or could it belong to anyone?
- Have I added a personal story, example, or opinion?
- Will this help my reader do or understand something better than before?
- Is this different from what someone could get just by asking ChatGPT?
- Would I be proud to share this post with a potential client?
If you answer no to any of these, go back and shape the content until you can confidently say yes.
Here’s How to Use AI the Right Way
Use it to make your content better, not beige.
Use it to speed up your process, not replace your brain.
Smart ways to use AI for blogging:
- Drafting outlines or bullet points for clarity
- Brainstorming angles or headlines
- Speeding up research or summarising source material
- Tidying up grammar or flow
- Repurposing your own long-form content into shorter formats
- Turning spoken content (videos, podcasts, voice notes) into written posts
- Injecting helpful structure to a messy first draft
Then step in. Edit. Expand. Inject your (or your brands) personality.
Shape the message so it sounds like you and no one else. Make it sparkle!

Want to Check If It Sounds Too Much Like AI?
Here are some tools that can help you check the “AI feel” of your writing:

✅ AI Detection Tools (2025-recommended):
- Originality.AI - Good for scanning entire blog posts and checking for both AI content and plagiarism
- GPTZero - Built for educators and businesses to spot AI-written text; great for longer form
- Copyleaks AI Detector - Now includes multi-language support and deeper tone analysis
- Sidekicker - Gives a “human score” to your blog so you know how it might be perceived
These tools won’t tell you what’s good or bad content. But they can give you a reality check. If your blog scores over 80% AI-written, ask yourself whether it’s really worth publishing as-is.
TL;DR 😉…
You can absolutely use AI in your blog writing process, just don’t hand over the keys to the robot and walk away, because your readers are looking for connection, stories, answers and truths.
If your blog sounds like it could’ve been written by a bot, it doesn’t serve you or them.
And from Google’s perspective?
You’ll quietly vanish into the noise.
